Souq Waqif

Souq Waqif was the second of three books published by abcd. An exploration of Middle Eastern culture, it poses fun questions such as: “How do you wear a ghutra? What are the components of a shisha pipe? How do you build and light a bukhoor? What happens in a majlis?” The questions are answered via a visual journey of Doha’s oldest souq. Souq Waqif, which is the original retail heart of the Qatari capital. Through chapters called Culture, Home, Work, Wear, Fly, Eat, Taste and Sleep, this book (photographed, produced and published by the abcd team), introduces readers to the shopkeepers and examines the produce of a traditional Middle Eastern market.
